If you read this page all the way through it will help you tremendously to reduce your chances of getting a puppy with genetic or temperament issues and disorders!!! Then call for the training to go along with the info provided here.

There are three phases to the training. The first is about Health, and should weed out the majority of the irresponsible breeders.

The second is about weeding out the remaining irresponsible breeders who managed to BS their way through the health questions.

The Third is all about Socialization.

For your assistance, so you don't have to write each of the questions down while we are going through the training, you may print out the questions and I will then fill in the blanks on our phone consultation.

I will teach you the philosophy under some of the questions, so you can determine a correct answer when you hear one. For other questions I will give you examples, and for ALL of the questions I will give you MY answer, so you learn about me at the same time. I will teach you a mental approach to the breeders and their questions to help you determine correct answers. I CAN'T give you all the correct responses, all I can do is educate you enough so you can reasonably determine responsible breeders.

First rule of thumb: Put your heart in a drawer and lock it up!! ALL PUPPIES ARE CUTE!! even sick and ill tempered puppies.

Follow your INSTINCTS first, your brain second. When you find the responsible breeders THEN pull your heart out of the drawer and choose your new BABY!!

Phase I Questions to ask breeders:

1. What is your written genetic health guarantee?

    a) How many years knowledge do you have of the health of your lines?

    b) How did you obtain that knowledge?

    c) What do you KNOW about the health of your lines?

    d) What do you consider when you determine which stud to put to a female?

Phase II Questions to ask Breeders:

Will you give me names and numbers of people who have your pups?

I need at LEAST three, and one needs to be someone who has been to your facility and seen where, and under what conditions the dogs live.

Phase III Questions to ask Breeders:

1) How do you PHYSICALLY handle your pups the first 2 weeks of their lives?

    a) Where are the puppies kept?

2) Are there children allowed access to your puppies? If so, how are they allowed to play and interact with the puppies, and how do you monitor this process?

3) What do you do to socialize the puppies?

4) What process do you take in an effort to match puppies to their new families?
