Here are some examples of the different extremes available in Schnauzers concerning their coat types:

Big Fat Fur Coat Or Velcro Coat

This coat tends to be VERY High maintenance, but absolutely beautiful to look at.

Angel Hair Coat

This Hair type needs to be kept cut in a Puppy cut. If you let the hair grow long, it will just look scraggly. But IN a puppy cut it is adorable.

Very LOW maintenance, easy to groom and brush out tangles and other debris.

Straight Coarse Coat

kodiak.JPG (103025 bytes)This coat is also very low maintenance, it is like water off a ducks back, very little sticks to it, But the downside is it is VERY coarse and prickly in an extreme case. Not great for snuggling with!

Miracle Coat

This coat LOOKS like the high maintenance coat, but it can go for WEEKS without brushing and not tangle!!! If I could figure out how to produce it on a regular basis, and know it when it is produced before the adult coat comes in, I WOULD BE A RICH WOMAN!! Everyone would want one. BUT, unfortunately it is not predictable until the adult coat comes in at a mature age. We can sometimes feel strongly that it will be a Miracle coat, but won't guarantee it.

The standard colors of Miniature Schnauzers are:

Salt & Pepper (Princess, Storm Chaser, Drake are all examples of this color)

Black (Dragonward, Kodiak, The Enticer, MnementhTor are examples of Black )

Black & Silver (Phoenix, Stryker, Remington are Black & Silvers. There are two forms of Black & Silvers. One will be VERY brightly colored with the silver at birth (Stryker is an example of this), I call this the "Painted Face" Black & Silver, others refer to it as the "Phantom" which I don't use as some people use it to try to make people think it is a Rare Schnauzer Color! You will never see the color Phantom written on a registration, OR Painted Face for that matter.

The second form has hardly any silver on their face what so ever at birth but will develop as vivid a face as the one born that way over the weeks and months (Phoenix is an example of this one). You can click on the highlighted words to go see picture examples of these two color examples.

All others are not considered a standard acceptable color.
